Author, attorney joins GLAD's Board

Scott D. Pomfret has joined the Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) Board of Directors.

"It's an honor to join the board of an organization that I have worked with and admired for over ten years," Pomfret says. "I've been consistently impressed by the professionalism, tenacity, wisdom, and wit with which GLAD's staff has approached their challenges, win or lose. I look forward to helping to guide GLAD into the next phase of its advocacy and standing alongside the staff as they fight the good fight for LGBT people in New England and, by intension and example, across the country."

Pomfret, a Director in the Financial Services Regulatory Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, was an attorney in the litigation department of Ropes & Gray, LLP for four years. While there, Pomfret was a Cooperating Attorney with GLAD in a Supreme Judicial Court case challenging the constitutionality of the Massachusetts sodomy laws.

Most recently, Pomfret worked for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in various roles, including Branch Chief, Senior Counsel, Ethics Officer, and Staff Attorney. He helped organize the SEC's first gay pride celebration in 2008, and founded the company's first LGBT employee affinity group.

After the publication of his well received 2008 memoir Since My Last Confession -- about being a gay practicing Catholic -- Pomfret was asked to leave his lay minister post at Saint Anthony Shrine in Boston.

GLAD's board president, Rick McCarthy, says Pomfret will bring a fresh perspective to the board. "Scott's legal and financial experience, his advocacy for same-sex marriage and gay rights, balanced with his involvement in the Catholic Church will help us expand our base of support and add depth to the boards' vision."
