Smallville - The Final Season

JC Alvarez READ TIME: 2 MIN.

After 10 seasons, dedicated viewers of the hit television series "Smallville" which chronicled the early years of DC Comics' Superman, will finally see its star Tom Welling, in the iconic blue suit and red cape assuming the mantle of the Man of Steel, captured in this 6-disc DVD release of "Smallville - The Final Season."

The series contemporarily evolved the mythology of Superman's (and Welling's) alter-ego Clark Kent from his humble beginnings as a teenager discovering his incredible abilities in the Kansas suburb in which he was raised - and follows Kent's further adventures to the concrete jungles of Metropolis.

The strength and popularity of the series inside and outside of the fan boy community resides in its dedication and spirit to the commitment of more than 50 years of the comic book legend.

With several loose ends to wrap up before our hero took flight and walked down the aisle with leading lady Lois Lane (Erica Durance) - there was the inevitable return of arch-nemesis Lex Luthor, the trappings of a government agency looking to shut down the "superheroes", and the greatest evil ever known...the otherworldly Darkseid, before his legendary ascension into pop-culture history.

Ripe with the potential for spin-offs "Smallville" introduced some of Superman's most colorful cohorts - including members of the Justice League - so it is quite possible that the genre successfully catapulted by the series' success could lead to their heroic return someday. Loaded with previously unaired scenes for extended episodes, commentary, and two behind-the-scenes documentaries, "Smallville - The Final Season" on DVD leaps tall buildings in a single bound.
