"No Secret Anymore!" Reveals Private Life of Historic Partners

Robert Doyle READ TIME: 2 MIN.

NEW YORK, NY - No Secret Anymore! is a film that reveals the inspiring lives of Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon, partners in love and political struggle for more than 50 years, and their public activism as well as their charming and very funny private relationship.

Del and Phyllis advanced the rights of women, lesbians, gay, bisexual, and transgender (lgbt) people.

Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon, are recognized as founders of the modern lesbian civil rights movement. They continued making history as the first same-sex couple to be married officially in San Francisco in February, 2004.

No Secret Anymore! is a 57-minute film that shows Del and Phyllis creating coalitions that took on the prevailing belief that lesbians were illegal, immoral and sick. Phyllis and Del did the groundbreaking work with lesbian mothers, sex education, family violence, and more.

Always working both from within and outside the institutions they sought to change, this story of their lives traces the emergence of lesbians from the fear of discovery to an expectation of equality.

Throughout the years many politicians have sought their advice and endorsement, and today no politician in the Bay Area can avoid addressing lesbian and gay issues. Today these unapologetic and unstoppable activists are educating both the lgbt and aging movements on the needs of old lesbians.

Del was a key member of the campaign that resulted in the historic 1973 decision of the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality from its manual of mental illness.
