On May 11, Aqua Girl will celebrate 14 years at the private residence of J. Michael Heider and Thom Carr. The upscale cocktail party will feature appetizers and an open bar for guests. Robin Schwartz, executive director of Aqua Girl, said it's more than just a networking event.

"It's an opportunity for the LGBT community to come together and enjoy an evening," Schwartz said. "We very much welcome our gentlemen friends to join the women of our community for this lovely evening."

Along with the food and drink, the event will hand out a multitude of awards, including the Broward Community Leader and Volunteer of the Year awards. Schwartz hopes many will take note of Aqua Girl's work in South Florida.

"We give grants, scholarships and awards services to Broward County," Schwartz said. "But many in the community are not aware of this so we hope those who attend the event will learn more about our work."

The Aqua Foundation for Women is a not-for-profit foundation that serves "as the funding catalyst for lesbian, bisexual, and transgender wellness and equality in South Florida through grants, scholarships, and initiatives," according to its website.

The money raised from ticket sales from the event will go toward Aqua's members and support to the foundation. Costs for the event have been minimal due sponsorships from da Campo Osteria, Bacardi, and Barefoot Wine. The event requires proper dress attire from guests attending.

Aqua Foundation for Women Membership starts as low as $12.50/month. To join, visit aquafoundation.org/membership.
