Teacher Asks for Apology After Gay Marriage Firing

A teacher who was fired from a Catholic girls high school in Little Rock after she married her female partner is asking for an apology.

Tippi McCullough said Tuesday that she also wants Mount St. Mary Academy to adopt a non-discrimination policy.

McCullough and Barb Mariani were married Oct. 16 in New Mexico. McCullough said that less than an hour after the ceremony she got a call from the principal, saying she couldn't continue at the school if she was married to a woman.

McCullough taught at Mount St. Mary for 14 years and says her sexuality wasn't a secret.

The activist group Human Rights Campaign says it collected more than 50,000 signatures from an online petition supporting McCullough.

The school's president didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
