Ball State Senate Urged to Oppose State Constitutional Ban on Gay Marriage

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State University faculty members are urging the school's Senate to recommend that the university join a bipartisan coalition fighting to prevent Indiana's gay marriage ban from being amended into the state constitution.
Ball-State-UniversityIndiana University, Wabash College and DePauw University have already joined the Freedom Indiana coalition that's pushing to defeat the proposed amendment; Purdue University declined to express an opinion.
The Muncie campus' Faculty Council recently voted overwhelmingly to oppose the amendment and it's now asking the University Senate for its support.
The Star Press reports Ball State's Senate is scheduled to make a recommendation this week on whether or not Ball State should join the campaign.
Ball State Provost Terry King told the Faculty Council last month the administration "feels strongly that Ball State must continue to be a welcoming and inclusive institution."
