ORLANDO, Fla. -- Sen. Marco Rubio told an anti-gay group that the fight to protect the nation's morality needs to be part of government debate.

Rubio was the keynote speaker at the Florida Family Policy Council's fundraising dinner Saturday night. He told the group that the debate in Washington should not be whether issues about moral values should be debated, but which issues to debate.
Likewise, he said the debate about whether God should be allowed in school or government is ridiculous because God is everywhere and doesn't need permission to be in either.

Rubio was well received by supporters of the group that led the effort to put a gay marriage ban in the state constitution. Before he began speaking, a guest shouted "Rubio for President.
