Actress Jenny McCarthy is under fire this week after she made what some are calling an anti-trans joke on Twitter, but quickly deleted it, the Huffington Post reports.
"The View" co-host attempted at a joke about rumors about Jennifer Lopez's boyfriend, Casper Smart, who was accused of cheating on the pop star with a transgender bikini model.
"Did Jennifer Lopez' boyfriend cheat with a transsexual model? I Heard JLo gave him an ultimatum: 'it's either me or her/him!" McCarthy tweeted to her 1.17 million followers.
She quickly deleted the joke, however, as HuffPo notes.
Though it's gone from her Twitter feed, users of the social media giant have already started to backlash against her. HuffPo collected a number of tweets calling McCarthy out for her transphobic quote:
"Hey Jenny, that 'joke' about the trans person was truly tasteless. Get relevant."
"#Trans people shouldn't be used as punchlines in bad jokes when they're too often used as punching bags for violence. #lgbt"
"Hey @JennyMcCarthy your last tweet was really transphobic. I'm a 'learn and be better' type, so I thought I'd let you know. PEACE."
McCarthy's tweet comes amid a national discussion about the use of the word "tranny." Drag icon RuPual has come under fire for defending the word as some people say the word is offensive to the trans community.
