Kendall Jenner Publicly Addresses Years of Speculation About Her Sexuality
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Model and television personality Kendall Jenner has publicly responded to years of speculation about her sexual orientation, saying she is not gay and would have come out by now if she were.
Jenner made the comments during an interview on the January 9 episode of the podcast “In My Dreams, ” hosted by actor and comedian Owen Thiele. She is described as 30 years old in coverage of the episode.
In the conversation, Thiele raised the topic directly, telling Jenner that “a lot of people think you’re a secret lesbian, ” prompting her to address the rumors on the record. Jenner responded that she is not gay and said that, based on how she knows herself, she believes she would already be out if she were part of the LGBTQ+ community.
Jenner emphasized that she does not view being gay or queer as negative, stating there is nothing wrong with being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, but clarified that this does not describe her own identity. She added that she understands coming out can be difficult for many people and stressed that she was speaking only about her own experience and sense of self.
The model also criticized the tone she has observed in some public and online speculation about the possibility that she might be queer. She said what bothers her is “how mean people are about it, ” describing the reaction as lacking a welcoming attitude, and characterizing some responses as harsh and judgmental rather than supportive.
Jenner addressed a particular narrative suggesting that she might be hiding a queer identity because it would be “bad for business” for the Kardashian–Jenner family’s brands. She rejected that claim, saying she had seen comments implying that being openly LGBTQ+ would harm the family business but that she did not understand how that would be the case.
At the same time, Jenner signaled openness to how her life could evolve, saying that “as of today” she does not identify as gay, that she does not think she will, but that she is not closing the door to experiences in life. Coverage of the interview highlighted this remark as a recognition that people’s attractions and identities can shift over time, even as she made clear how she understands herself at present.
The discussion comes after years of online speculation about Jenner’s private life, including commentary focused on her dating history and public appearances. Reports noted that she has previously been linked to several men, including singer Harry Styles, basketball players Blake Griffin and Ben Simmons, and music artist Bad Bunny, while saying that these relationships have not stopped ongoing rumors about her orientation.
LGBTQ+ commentators and outlets have pointed out that speculation about a person’s sexuality, especially when divorced from their own self-identification, can contribute to an environment where queer and questioning people feel scrutinized rather than supported. Coverage in LGBTQ+ media framed Jenner’s remarks both as a rejection of intrusive rumor culture and as a reminder that being openly queer should not be treated as a liability for a public figure.
