SC Republican Calls Gays 'Gremlins' in Facebook Rant

A Republican candidate from South Carolina is making headlines Tuesday after he called same-sex couples "gremlins" in a recent Facebook post, MSNBC reports.

"Same-sex 'marriage' is a pestilence that has descended on our society, against our will, by those in the courts and government that do not value the traditional family," Anthony Culler, the GOP candidate fro South Carolina's 6th Congressional District, wrote on Facebook on Oct. 14. "Same-sex couples that seek to destroy our way of life and the institution of marriage are not cute and cuddly but rather (for those of you that are old enough to remember the movie), Gremlins that will only destroy our way of life."

In his lengthy post, Culler also calls LGBT people "bullies" that lead an "alternative lifestyle" full of substance abuse, saying that the LGBT community is "self-destructive."

He also apparently takes issue with the many states that have legalized gay marriage over the past few weeks.

"Same-sex 'marriage' has become 'legal' because the mass majority of citizens, those of us that believe in traditional families and marriage being between one man and one woman, have ALLOWED this to happen due to our ignorance and apathy," Culler wrote before adding, "(Sound familiar... look at what our government has become due in no small part to our apathy and non-involvement!)"

The politician is attempting to unseat Democrat James Clyburn. He said a vote against Clyburn would help drive gay marriage "back into the darkness" and save traditional marriage and family values from destruction. Culler adds that Americans should not "buy into the 'cuteness' and 'What will it hurt?' arguments whispered in your ears and marketed to our children. Same-sex couples that seek to destroy our way of life."

Since the post went viral, Culler took to Facebook Monday to reply to people who left comments disagreeing with his rant.

"Read all the comments written in the past twenty four hours by gremlins and decide if you have taken them and their hate too lightly," Culler wrote. "Think about these comments the next time you hear lesbians and gays say Christians are intolerant. Do you still think the lesbian/gay agenda is not intent on destroying traditional families and marriage? Gremlins... they should be left in the dark for a reason. Evil is as evil does."

MSNBC notes that it is unlikely Clyburn will lose his seat because he is South Carolina's first black congressman since Reconstruction and he represents a majority black district.

Clyburn backs same-sex marriage and has a "huge fundraising advantage with about $1.5 million in the bank," MSNBC writes.
