Banshee - Season Two

An action series is a bit of a tough sell. However, with the success of shows like "The Walking Dead," it's clear people do like gunfights and explosions. "Banshee" provides that as it explore the seedy underbelly of a small town. A bit uneven at times it does have entertainment value if you do like tons of Cinemax style gratuitous violence.

The DVD of the Second Season includes a fair amount of bonus features. "Banshee Origins" is a series of vignettes that provide color to the characters and delve into their complicated pasts. It's nice because many shows won't actually use the cast with their bonus series, but these are well-made, stand-alone flashbacks. The only downside is the long opening sequence of each one. There are also actual deleted scenes and audio commentaries.

"Zoomed In" has making-of features that focus on the nuts and bolts of each episode. There is also "Conversation between Olek & the Albino" which really just feels like a needlessly merchandised "Banshee Origins" episode.

Ultimately, "Banshee" caters to a niche audience that loves the plot conventions and tropes of straight-to-video style action movies. There is nothing in the DVD set that is an instant draw, but fans of the show will enjoy getting more bang, pow, and crash for their buck.
