The Top 15 HIV Fundraisers of 2014

Although we've been living with HIV for upwards of 30 years, the funding for AIDS research and service organization dwindles every year. These groups must struggle to find alternative revenue streams, and some of them get pretty creative.

Here's a list of 2014's top 15 HIV fundraisers. From Los Angeles to New York, see how these groups raise funds to help their clients living with HIV/AIDS.

20th Annual Cycle for the Cause Raises Nearly $800,000: A large crowd of supporters came together on W. 13th Street in New York City on the afternoon of Sunday, September 21 to welcome home the 150 riders of 20th Annual Cycle for the Cause, a Boston to New York charity bike ride. The riders raised nearly $800,000 for The LGBT Community Center's HIV/AIDS programs and services. Read more here.

AIDS Quilt Comes to Governor's Island: With a thunder of engines, the motorcycles rolled up the gangplank of the Governor's Island Ferry, completing the Fifth Annual Kiehl's LifeRide for amfAR, a charity ride raising money to help end the global AIDS epidemic. A short boat ride later, they disembarked for a dedication of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Read more here.

Best in Drag Show Raises Funds for AIDS For AIDS: The Best in Drag Show, the outrageous and long-running annual fundraiser, was held on October 5 at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, raising funds for Aid for AIDS. Read more here.

Broadway Sleeps Under the Stars to Raise Funds for Covenant House: On Sunday, August 17, The Covenant House held the Second Annual Sleep Out: Broadway Edition. Members of the Broadway community spent the night sleeping on the streets outside the Covenant House to raise much-needed funds for homeless youth.Read more here.

Del Shores Emcees Drag Queen World Series; Funds for Life Group LA: On May 10, comedian and writer Del Shores of "Sordid Lives" fame served as the emcee for the 3rd Annual Drag Queen World Series, pitting the LA Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence against the West Hollywood Cheerleaders. Get 'Drenched' at The Life Group LA Fundraiser: As summer turned into fall, The Life Group LA invited you to get "Drenched" one last time at their September 13 fundraiser pool party and first-ever drag water polo game to benefit people living with HIV/AIDS. Read more here.

God's Love We Deliver Launches '1,000 Tiles for Love': As part of the renovation and expansion of their SoHo home at the Michael Kors Building, God's Love We Deliver announced "1,000 Tiles for Love," a campaign where people purchase 4"x4" ceramic tiles inscribed with their name or a message, to support the initiative. Jack Mackenroth Kicks Off HIV Shower Selfie Challenge: In an effort to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic and raise a million dollars toward finding a cure, HIV activist Jack Mackenroth partnered with global gay social app Moovz to launch The Shower Selfie Challenge, the HIV equivalent to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Jack Mackenroth Pledges to Raise $50,000 on BRAKING AIDS Ride: Super-sexy Jack Mackenroth needs your help! This former "Project Runway" designer turned HIV activist pledged to raise $50,000 for BRAKING AIDS Ride, a 285 mile bike ride from Boston to New York City benefiting Housing Works, whose mission is to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy and the provision of lifesaving services.Read more here.

LA AIDS Walk Reaches 30th Anniversary: October 12 marks the 30th anniversary of AIDS Walk Los Angeles, the nation's oldest annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser. Since 1985, the event has drawn more than a half-million participants who have raised nearly $75 million for APLA's public health programs. Read more here.

LGBT Youth and Allies Participate in GLSEN Day of Silence: When the school bell rings today, LGBT students and their allies will be cheering especially loud, and not just because it's Friday. PWN-USA Joins Merck for National HIV Campaign "I Design": Although technically an awareness campaign and not a fundraiser, the Positive Women's Network -- United States of America (PWN-USA) teamed up with Merck to launch "I Design," a national HIV educational campaign. Saddle Up Raises Funds for The Life Group: On Saturday, July 12 in California's Griffith Park Mountains, riders gathered for the 9th Annual Saddle Up LA event, a horseback ride and country BBQ to raise funds for the AIDS service organization The Life Group L.A. to run their POZ Life Weekend Seminars. Thousands to Attend GMHC Latex Ball: Thousands of people from the New York City area gathered at Terminal Five on Saturday, Aug. 17 for GMHC's 23rd Annual Latex Ball. This new venue will feature 27 competitions in dance, voguing, fashion and appearance. It is also a great way to raise money and awareness around HIV among young MSM of color. Read more here.

Florence Henderson Helps at NoCal's Largest AIDS Benefit: On August 24, Northern California will hold "Help Is On the Way 20," its largest annual star-studded AIDS benefit concert and gala, to benefit four Bay Area ASOs.
