Madrid Fashion Week has celebrated its 30th anniversary with presentations from 44 designers and brands by models on catwalks in Spain's premier fashion showcase.

New designers at the six-day event this year included The 2nd Skin Co., Leandro Cano and Esther Noriega. Portuguese designers were invited as "guests" from another country and their show featured Miguel Vieira, Anabela Baldaque and Julio Torcato.

The event was first held in 1985 in a circus tent at the height of the countercultural movement in Spain known as the "Movida Madrilena" marking the emergence of a new wave of Spanish culture during the country's transition to democracy following the 1975 death of dictator Francisco Franco.

Now it takes place in a sprawling convention center.
