LCR to CPAC: Gay Conservatives are Just as Conservative as Anti-Gay Conservatives

Maybe the invitation was lost in the mail - - again.

Among the many right-wing luminaries scheduled to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C. next week are: Sam Brownback, the pig farmer turned governor of Kansas who recently stripped LGBT state workers of employment non-discrimination protections, Ben Carson, the neurosurgeon turned professional Obamacare basher who compares marriage equality advocates to supporters of bestiality and pedophiles, and half-term Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin who is well, Sarah Palin.

Not present in any official capacity as a group next week will be the gay conservative members of the Log Cabin Republicans (LCR), who have been once again denied an official place at the table by CPAC organizers the American Conservative Union (ACU).

"Make no mistake: LCR is actively being prohibited from sponsoring CPAC. For our organization, this has always been about contributing to CPAC as sponsors or in some recognized capacity." Said LCR National Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo in a statement released Thursday. "Time and again, when we showed the ACU that we met the criteria for sponsorship, the reasons for our exclusion changed. The only conclusion that can be made is that the organizers of CPAC do not feel gay people can be conservative-"

Deja Vu?

In 2014, Angelo penned a similar statement blasting the ACU for allowing gay Republicans to attend the event while barring them from any official recognition which he likened to "the equivalent of not being allowed to sit at the lunch counter but still be served food, or sitting in the back of the bus, as long as we were allowed to ride it."

For this year's missive, Angelo is reminding CPAC organizers and official participants of his organization's conservative positions on everything from their opposition to Obamacare to tax reform to opposition to Obamacare to support of fracking and (you guessed it) opposition to Obamacare.

"We are just as conservative as anyone else at CPAC-I dare say even more conservative than many; the only difference is that we are gay." Angelo said reminding the group "Incredibly, among the greatest ironies at CPAC 2015 is that�"Duck Dynasty"�star Phil Robertson will be�honored with a Freedom of Speech Award at this year's event, when�Log Cabin Republicans was one of the only conservative organizations with the guts to defend him�in the aftermath of his notorious comments to�GQ Magazine�in 2013. If anyone should be honored with a Freedom of Speech Award at this year's CPAC, it should be Log Cabin Republicans."
