Mazzoni Center is proud to announce that its annual celebration and fundraiser, Elixir: the Cure for the Common Gala, will take place on Friday, May 15, on the Mill House Deck at Philadelphia's historic Water Works.
"We're thrilled to be able to host this year's event in such an iconic Philadelphia location, and we look forward to a truly festive and special evening with friends and supporters of Mazzoni Center," said Event Co-Chair Jessica Slack.
This year's event marks the 35th anniversary of the nonprofit health care and social service provider, whose mission is to provide quality comprehensive health and wellness services in an LGBT-focused environment, while preserving the dignity and improving the quality of life of the individuals they serve.
As part of this year's event, Mazzoni Center will honor Franny Price, Executive Director of Philly Pride Presents, organizer of the city's annual Pride parade and festival and a longtime community activist and advocate, with the Gloria Casarez Activist Award, named for the city's first Director of LGBT Affairs, who passed away in 2014.
Also being honored is Michael Tambn, an advocate for people living with HIV whose commitment to speaking out, along with his special events and dynamic performances as drag queen "Cherry Pop" has helped raised awareness and reduced stigma around the disease.
"Franny Price and Michael Tambn are remarkable and accomplished individuals," Mazzoni Center CEO Nurit Shein said, adding, "I believe they each embody Mazzoni Center's spirit of dedicated service to Philadelphia's LGBT community, and the promise of a bright future ahead."
In addition to live music and dancing, DJ entertainment, delicious food and open bar, a silent auction, and stunning, unparalleled riverside views, guests at Elixir will enjoy special live performances by Rainere Martin as Donna Summer, and Philadelphia Voices of Pride.
Master of Ceremonies for the 2015 Elixir event will be 13-time Emmy Award-winner Jim Donovan, CBS 3 Eyewitness News Consumer Reporter.
"This event is a great opportunity to give back and celebrate the incredible progress that Mazzoni and the communities it serves have made over the years," said Elixir Co-Chair Tom Runkle.
Proceeds from the Elixir event support Mazzoni Center's continuum of health and wellness services, which includes a full array of primary health care services, mental and behavioral health services, and LGBT legal services, as well as HIV and STD testing, food bank and housing subsidies for families and individuals affected by HIV, support groups, outreach and education programs.
