Boston Pride to Co-Sponsor AIDS Memorial Quilt Exhibit at UMass Boston

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Boston Pride will co-sponsor, with the University of Massachusetts Boston and other organizations, an exhibit of the AIDS Memorial Quilt at UMass Boston's campus center.

Sections of the 54-ton, handmade tapestry that memorializes the thousands of individuals lost to AIDS, will be on display for public viewing from November 30 to December 4.

Established in 1987 with a single 3 x 6 foot panel created, the AIDS Memorial Quilt has grown to include 48,000 individual 3 x 6 foot panels that commemorate the life of someone who has died of AIDS. The panels come from all 50 states and from countries around the world, and have been created by family members, friends, and loved ones of those who have been lost to the disease. The custodian of the quilt, the largest piece of ongoing community art in the world, is the NAMES Project Foundation.

Tuesday, December 1 will also mark World AIDS Day. Boston Pride, along with our partners, will co-sponsor a community reception at UMass Boston to mark the day.
