Wearing colorful outfits and high-heeled shoes, a group of senior citizens took to the red carpet Friday at a New York City senior center's third annual fashion show.

Some of the models at the Carter Burden/Leonard Covello Senior Program's fashion show wore outfits they had made in the center's sewing class.

Rachel Oddman was met with roaring applause and cheers as she strutted down the red carpet at the senior center in Manhattan's East Harlem neighborhood in an outfit she created herself. Others, like Ruth Isaac, wore more traditional outfits. She modeled a Calvin Klein outfit that she altered.

"The joy of a fashion show like this is that it celebrates beauty at any age," said William Dionne, the center's executive director.

Before the seniors took to the runway, they shared laughs together as they had their makeup done by volunteers from Macy's.

The senior center provides meals, day trips, computer training and other services. It also helps clients apply for government benefits and access medical care.
