EDGE READ TIME: 3 MIN.

TheNew York Libertykicks off its historic 20th WNBA season on May 15 with a game against the Dallas Wings. Coming off one of the most exciting seasons in franchise history, the Liberty posted a WNBA-best 23-11 record in 2015 and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals. When New York takes the court at Madison Square Garden tonight, it will be led by All-WNBA First Team and All-Defensive Second Team forward Tina Charles. Head Coach Bill Laimbeer returns to the sidelines for his fourth season, after being named the WNBA Coach of the Year in 2015.

The Liberty's 2016 home opener at The Garden presented by Kia Motors will be on Sunday, May 15, against the Dallas Wings at 5 p.m. New York will play 17 home games this season, and due to a change in the WNBA schedule, all teams will play one another at least three times regardless of conference affiliation, creating a nearly balanced schedule while providing fans with an opportunity to see different league foes more frequently. The Liberty will face the Indiana Fever four times, twice at home, and twice on the road.

This season, the Atlanta Dream, Connecticut Sun, Dallas Wings, Indiana Fever, Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm will each make two trips to Madison Square Garden. The Chicago Sky, Los Angeles Sparks, Minnesota Lynx, San Antonio Stars, and Washington Mystics will play one game at The Garden.

New York will host several exciting theme nights, highlighted by its 20th Season Celebration against the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, June 26, at 3 p.m. That game will be played 20 years after the Liberty competed in the inaugural WNBA game against the Los Angeles Sparks at the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles in 1997.

Additionally, the Liberty will host Maddie's Birthday presented by Fidelis Care (Saturday, May 21), Pride Night presented by Resorts World Casino (Friday, June 24), Show Up for Daughters Day presented by Fidelis Care (Sunday, July 10), Breast Health Awareness Night presented by Delta (Wednesday, Sept. 7), Back to School Night presented by Foot Locker (Friday, Sept. 9), and Fan Appreciation Night presented by Chase (Tuesday, Sept. 13).

New York will play one home preseason game against the Minnesota Lynx at Columbia University's Levien Gymnasium on Thursday, May 5, at 7 p.m. The contest is open exclusively for Liberty season ticket holders, who will have a unique opportunity to watch two of the WNBA's premier franchises in an intimate setting.

With several WNBA stars expected to represent their countries in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro (August 5-21), the league has not scheduled any competition from July 23-August 24, similar to the 2004, 2008, and 2012 seasons that featured a break for the Olympics.

Single-game tickets for its are now on sale, starting at $20, at the Madison Square Garden Box Office, online at NYLiberty.com, through the WNBA Ticketmaster charge-by-phone number 877-WNBA-TIX, all Ticketmaster outlets and Ticketmaster.com/NYLiberty.
