Texas Dad Convicted of Murdering Daughter & Her Partner
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
A Texas father accused of murdering his own daughter and her girlfriend, dumping their bodies behind a dumpster, in 2014 has been convicted of the slayings, the Houston Press reports.
A Galveston County State District Court jury found James Larry Cosby guilty of capital murder Wednesday in the deaths of his daughter Britney Cosby and her partner Crystal Jackson, both 24.
He will automatically be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Larry Cosby was arrested in March 2014 in connection to the murder of his daughter and her girlfriend. The Houston Press reports the motives for the slayings are not clear but family and friends told the newspaper and later testified in court that Larry Cosby "had problems with women" and took issue with his daughter's sexuality.
Capt. Barry Cook, an investigator on the case, said it's impossible to know what triggered the fight that leaded to the murder in March 2014.
"These are the things we know. He had resentment. They had a better life. They were being treated differently at that house," he told the Houston Press. "He didn't agree with their lifestyle, but neither did the Jacksons. Were they killed for being gay? Who knows? He's the only one who knows and he's not talking."
On March 6 there was an altercation at Britney Cosby's great grandmother's house (Larry Cosby's grandmother), where she and Jackson were living, along with Jackson's daughter, who was 5 at the time. Larry Cosby was also living there, moving there in late 2013 after being released from prison.
The couple's bodies were discovered the following morning. Britney Cosby had been beaten to death with killing blows delivered to her head. She was also strangled. Jackson was strangled and shot in her right temple, which killed her. Their bodies were found next to a dumpster, along with a wooden shudder that had a bloody thumbprint. The shudder matched the shudders on the home where the women and Larry Cosby lived. Authorities later found blood at the home and large blood stains in the living room, which Larry Cosby was using as a bed room.
The Houston press reports Larry Cosby is a convicted sex offender and his past arrest include a number of assault and weapons charges.
