B.A.R. Rolls Out Besties Ballot

It's time for the Bay Area Reporter's annual readers' poll, the Besties: The LGBT Best of the Bay, and voting begins Thursday (February 2).

The popular contest - now in its seventh year - is a way for readers to tell the paper which LGBT-owned and LGBT-friendly people, places, and things they like in the Bay Area. Categories run the gamut from arts and culture to nightlife to dining to community. There's also a weddings category and more.

There are some new entries this year, such as best ice cream/frozen yogurt, best choral group, and best gym. The entries for local nonprofits have been reconfigured, with mostly new nominees.

As has been the case in recent years, readers are free to make their own nominations in each category.

Readers who complete at least 75 percent of the ballot will automatically be eligible for prizes, which include San Francisco Ballet tickets and concert tickets, among other giveaways.

Voting will close March 2; the Besties issue will be published April 6.

People should also save the evening of April 6, when the B.A.R. will host its Besties party at Oasis, 298 11th Street, from 6 to 8 p.m. The evening will feature drink specials and light refreshments and is open to the public (21 and over).
