Get Your First Look at Disney Star Ross Lynch as Jeffrey Dahmer for New Movie
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Last year it was reported Disney star Ross Lynch, best known for his role on "Teen Beach," will play infamous gay serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in an upcoming film called "My Friend Dahmer." Several months later, the 21-year-old actor took to Instagram over the weekend to share a pic of himself in character.
Lynch made headlines last year for his uncanny resemblance to Dahmer and the new photo of the actor in full getup doesn't disappoint.
Written and directed by Marc Meyers, "My Friend Dahmer" is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Derf Backderf. The novel retells his high school friendship with Dahmer, who murdered 17 men between 1978 and 1991.
"It's the story before the story we're all familiar with," Meyers told Entertainment Weekly. "The book is this haunting, sad, funny, true look at Jeffrey Dahmer's high school years, growing up in the suburbs of Akron, Ohio, in the mid-to-late '70s - and that's exactly what this film has become."
Meyers, who filmed some of the movie in the home where Dahmer grew up, went on to say that he met with more than 80 actors for the two main roles before settling on Lynch.
"I just locked into Ross when I met him. I felt that he both had the versatility as an actor and the look," the director told EW. "I thought it was exciting that he was just ending his run as the lead of a Disney show and was the lead of their 'Teen Beach Movie' franchise - but he looks like Jeff! And then, even more so, when you put some glasses on him."
He added:
Some of the real friends that grew up with Dahmer in the '70s - the author of the book and a couple of others - came by set, and they confirmed for me how hauntingly similar Ross Lynch looks to the actual Dahmer. So much so, the author of the book asked him, "If you want to talk to me, please take your glasses off, because it's freaking me out."
"My Friend Dahmer" will debut at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival in April.
