Alliance for Positive Change Hosts HIV Poetry Reading

On Thursday, April 20, in celebration of National Poetry Month, The Alliance for Positive Change (previously AIDS Service Center NYC) will hold their annual "Voices" Poetry Reading at the Barnes & Noble at Union Square.
Poets from the Alliance's Creative Writing Workshop present their powerful poems of Positive Change. The Alliance helps New Yorkers seeking health, recovery, and a better future as they navigate life with HIV and other chronic health conditions.
For nearly 20 years, the Alliance's Creative Writing Workshop, originally led by award-winning poet Gerry Gomez Pearlberg and now led by Alliance Peer Educators, has been a safe haven where participants can find their voice, shed their fears, get healthier and build a new sense of self.
Participants meet weekly in a workshop to read the works of established poets and to create and discuss original poetry. While taking inspiration from great poets past and present, the poems written by the participants in the writing workshop are very much their own.
Guests will receive a free copy of "Situations," the Alliance's annual literary magazine. The Alliance has been publishing the moving work of participants for 19 years.
The Alliance for Positive Change serves New Yorkers seeking health, recovery, and a better future as they navigate life with HIV and other chronic health conditions. The Alliance's free and confidential services help clients access medical care, overcome addiction, escape homelessness, rejoin the workforce, replace isolation with community, and lead healthier and more self-sufficient lives.
"Voices" will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 at the Barnes & Noble Union Square, 33 East 17th Street, 4th floor.
