'Women Rock' at Cutting Room Supports Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls

On Monday, May 22, come out to the Cutting Room when the Songwriter Hall of Fame's Holly Knight hosts the "Women Rock" show for Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. The show honors women songwriters/singers from the 1970s and 1980s who have elevated the music industry, including Carole King, Irene Cara, and Minnie Riperton.
A portion of the proceeds from 'Women Rock' will be donated to the�Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.

Featuring the music of Holly Knight, Carole King, Irene Cara, Janis Joplin, Minnie Riperton, Heart, Joan Jett and others, the concert includes hit songs as�"I Feel The Earth Move," "What's Love Got To Do With It," "Freeway of Love," "Proud Mary," "Piece Of My Heart," "Dancing In The Street," "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Love Is A Battlefield," "Simply The Best," "These Dreams," "Lovin' You," "Flashdance," and "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman."

Holly Knight has had a wild ride in the music business that ignited when she met her future songwriting partner and producer, Mike Chapman. The duo penned Spider's single, "Better Be Good To Me," with music icon Tina Turner later recording the hit on her album "Private Dancer." Knight/Chapman's success continued when the pair wrote the iconic smash, "Love Is A Battlefield" for Pat Benatar, "The Warrior" for Patty Smyth, "Change" for John Waite, "Baby Me" for Chaka Khan, "Never" for Heart, "Pleasure and Pain" for Divinyls, and Benatar's "Invincible."
As an independent songwriter, Knight has written nine songs for Turner, including "The Best," which became one of the pop icon's signature songs. Knight also wrote "Love Touch" for Rod Stewart, "Obsession" for Animotion, "Hide Your Heart" for KISS, "Rag Doll" with Aerosmith, and "Space" for Cheap Trick. Knight's notable works have led her to win three Grammys� and thirteen ASCAP Songwriter Awards.
Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls (WMRC) is a non-profit music and social justice organization that empowers more than 500 girls and women in New York City through music education, volunteerism, and activities that foster safer spaces, self-respect, leadership skills, creativity, and collaboration. The organization is named after Willie Mae Thornton, one of the first women in rock n' roll.
