Gay Dating Apps Scruff and Jack'd Follow Grindr in Removing 'Ethnicity Filters'

The company that owns the gay dating apps Scruff and Jack'd announced this week that it will be removing the "ethnicity filters" from both platforms in order to show support for the Black Lives Matter movement. The move comes not long after Grindr announced it made the same decision after a number of users complained about the feature.

The official Twitter account for Scruff made the announcement on June 2, writing that the company "stand[s] in solidarity with the fight against systemic racism and historic oppression of the Black community. Black Lives Matter." Attached to the tweet is a screenshot of action the company will be taking, which includes removing its "ethnicity filter," which allows users to search for others by ethnicity.

The company, however, did not say when the changes will be made.

Perry Street Software, which is the parent company of Scruff, acquired Jack'd last year.
