Miley's New Single Celebrates Pansexual Attraction

Miley Cyrus has a new single - and it celebrates pansexual attraction, using both male and female pronouns, reports UK newspaper The Mirror.

It's not news that Cyrus, 27, identifies a pansexual; she came out in 2015. Her new single, "Midnight Sky," underscores the point, with the lyrics talking about kissing a girl before the singer shifts gears and the song's romantic partner becomes male.

Cyrus explained the switch-up, saying, "The pop structure is that the chorus says the same thing every time so it burns in to your brain and that when you're at a concert and people get wasted, they're never like 'Wait, what did she say there?' "

Added Cyrus: "This goes against that by having this gender swap in lyrics. In a way it is challenging the system and the structure, and that's what I always do."

Cyrus talked about "Midnight Sky" in a recent interview with the podcast Call Her Daddy, and revealed that she'd had feelings for others of the same gender since before she was a teenager. Chatting about her first sexual experience, she let this stunning disclosure drop:

"The first time I ever hooked up with anyone was with a girl – two of them."

The same interview saw Cyrus delve deep into her relationship with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, whom she divorced after only seven months of marriage, reported UK newspaper the Daily Mail. The two had been a couple off and on for a decade previous to tying the knot, and Cyrus confided that the divorce felt "like a death."

Hemsworth, meantime, reportedly "kind of has a low opinion of Miley," reported Us Magazine, given that following their divorce she had a brief love connection to Kaitlynn Carter before moving on to a 10-month romance with Cody Simpson.

It came to light the same day as the interview dropped that Cyrus had split from Simpson.

TMZ reported that Cyrus addressed the breakup with Simpson, with whom she has remained friendly, asking her fans to refrain from imagining "some drama story if next week we're out, hanging out, or getting pizza."
