An openly gay Green Lantern will feature in a new, upcoming live-action series airing on HBO Max, Deadline reports.

On Friday, it was announced that Seth Grahame-Smith would be a writer and showrunner for the upcoming series, joined by writing Marc Guggenhein (co-creator of the hit TV show "Arrow"). It was also confirmed that the new HBO Max series would feature Alan Scott, Earth's first Green Lantern who – true to the original "Earth-2" comic book series – is openly gay. In addition to the Alan Scott character, other Green Lanterns such as Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, and Simon Baz will also be depicted.

Greg Berlanti, the openly gay writer, director and producer (TV's "Arrow" and the hit film "Love, Simon" among many others), will produce the 10-part series for HBO Max. Berlanti promised in 2019 that "our biggest DC show ever made" will be "unlike anything seen on television."

No casting details or air date for the series have been announced.
