Controversial Makeup Artist James Charles Covers Vogue Portugal, Twitter Reacts

One of the most popular YouTube/makeup artists, James Charles is gracing the cover of Vogue Portugal's November issue.
Charles had been teasing his 7.1 million Twitter followers with an announcement on Sunday and finally revealed his cover, which is a closeup of his face with smudged lipstick and eye makeup.
"I'M ON THE COVER OF VOGUE," he tweeted, "I can't even believe this is real and can't wait for you guys to be able to read the entire issue..."
He also took the time to clap back at a hater, who, on June 12, made fun of Charles. At the time, the #VogueChallenge, in which users share four fierce photos that could cover the iconic fashion magazine, was trending.
Charles's cover comes about a week after Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour spoke with The New York Times about the publication's lack of diversity over the years, where she admits to making "mistakes along the way" to report "intolerant" workplace. Nevertheless, Charles has come under fire a number of times during his career. In 2017, when he was the CoverGirl ambassador, he apologized for a racist joke, Fashion Magazine reports.
In 2019, The New York Times covered Charles in a piece called "James Charles, From 'CoverBoy' to Canceled," which chronicles his rise to fame as well as how he was involved in much-covered YouTube drama involving, Tati Westbrook and Jeffree Star, and how he was hemorrhaging followers on social media.
