Orbitz and IGLTA Foundation Partner For Equality in Travel Industry

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

The International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA) Foundation is receiving much-needed support this week courtesy of an Orbitz campaign advocating for equality in the travel industry.

As part of the charitable drive, actors/activists Jeremy Pope and Indya Moore of FX's "Pose" star in social videos, art directed and filmed by Pope, in which they share intimate stories about their journey to becoming who they are today. They then invite their Instagram followers to visit Orbitz.com/thejourney to thank a friend or family member who has helped them on their journey to self-love and acceptance.

For every thank you message sent through December 6, Orbitz will donate $20, up to a total of $50,000, to the IGLTA Foundation, which provides education, research and leadership development that benefits the global LGBTQ+ tourism industry.

"We are incredibly grateful to Orbitz for championing our foundation for Giving Tuesday," said IGLTA Foundation Chair Reginald Charlot. "The pandemic has hit tourism especially hard, and while travel is a luxury for many of us, it's also a means to self-discovery and a way of promoting greater understanding of LGBTQ+ people. We've seen firsthand how travel can open minds."

Upcoming IGLTA Foundation initiatives include a guide for LGBTQ+ travelers with HIV, an expanded program to support LGBTQ+ businesses in emerging destinations, and development of an IGLTAF Transgender Advisory Council to increase awareness of the issues facing transgender travelers.

To participate:

Visit Orbitz.com/thejourney between through December 6. Send a note of thanks to someone using the email or social share links on site. Orbitz will donate $20 to the IGLTA Foundation for every message sent, up to $50,000.

Orbitz has a long history of supporting LGBTQ travel and was among the first travel brands to create advertising and content featuring openly LGBTQ couples, drag personalities and celebrities in the 2000s. Following the initial Giving Tuesday campaign, travelers can also participate in a second fundraising promotion benefitting the IGLTA Foundation, available through December 31. Visit Orbitz.refer.

The International LGBTQ+ Travel Association's mission is to provide information and resources for LGBTQ+ travelers and expand LGBTQ+ tourism globally by demonstrating its significant social and economic impact. In 2012, the philanthropic IGLTA Foundation was launched with a focus on education, research and leadership development initiatives that lead to a safer, more welcoming landscape for LGBTQ+ travelers. The Foundation supports LGBTQ+ business owners in emerging destinations and provides convention fellowships for them to receive mentorship and education.
