Watch: Tucker Carlson Attacks Trans Children On Air

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson launched an on-air attack against transgender children on his show Dec. 3, accusing parents of being "abusers" if they take trans kids at their word and show them support, reports Daily Beast.

Attacking the new HBO documentary "Transhood", which premiered Nov. 12, and airing clips from the program, Carlson mischaracterized the use of puberty blockers and "called treatment for [transgender children] 'grotesque' and 'an epidemic,'" the Daily Beast article reported.

Carlson zeroed in an a four-year-old who is profiled in the documentary - which follows several trans kids and their families over the course of several years - and claimed that the support and acceptance shown by the child's parents "would have qualified as a crime not so long ago," going on to denounce the mother's speaking on behalf of her child to a church congregation as "ventriloquism."

Carlson also claimed that young children are incapable of knowing which gender they identify as. The author of the Daily Beast article, Dawn Ennis, critiqued Carlson's claims, identifying as trans herself and drawing on her own lived experience to refute Carlson and describe for her readers the pain of trying to communicate her truth to her mother when she was a child. Her mother, Ennis wrote, "didn't believe me then, or when I came out to her when I was 49."

Also reporting on Carlson's anti-trans jeremiad was Pink News, which took note of Carlson's erroneous claim that medically prescribed puberty blockers are "irreversibly damaging" to the individuals for whom they are prescribed.

Pink News noted that "puberty blockers have been in use for decades, are a reversible treatment, and there is no evidence whatsoever that they cause 'irreversible damage'."

Pink News addressed another of Carlson's inaccuracies - his claim that trans people who receive medical intervention in their youth later regret it - by noting that his "claims that treatment is often regretted is helpfully contradicted both by objective reality and by other anti-transgender activists, who have started to complain that puberty blockers 'set kids on a particular path' because regret rates for the treatment are so low."

Another child in the documentary whom Carlson targeted was Avery Jackson, 4, as well as her mother, Debi, who happened to see her family's story being mischaracterized on Carlson's show.

"Honestly, it is shocking that people can go on TV and essentially slander you and call you a child abuser with no repercussions," Jackson told the Daily Beast, adding: "In fact, the more inflammatory they are, the higher their ratings and bigger the salary.

"Meanwhile, it can wreak havoc in your life and you are powerless to stop it."

Carlson further politicized the subject by smearing Democrats and President-elect Joe Biden, saying, "The Democratic Party is four-square behind it, and Joe Biden has announced that biological men should be allowed access to women's locker rooms in public schools across the country."
