Trump's GBF Richard Grenell Teases Run for CA Governor & Twitter Responds

Donald Trump's GBF Richard Grenell again teased a run for California's governorship.

"Former Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, who was a member of former President Donald Trump's Cabinet in 2020, seemingly hinted at a run for governor of California in 2022, after criticizing current Governor Gavin Newsom," Newsweek reports.

Much of his speech at CPAC on Saturday focused on Trump's America First foreign policy agenda and his contribution to it. But towards the end he shifted the topic to address the hoped-for recall.

"If things get really bad with elected officials, there's always the option to recall them. If you want the best case possible for a recall campaign, take a look at my home state of California," he said.

To Grenell, it has an image problem. "Now when you think of California, you think of out-of-control wildfires, of rolling blackouts, of schools still closed, of shuttered businesses, of bans on fracking and wealthy people jumping the vaccine line," he said.

Newsweek reports he ended with calling for Newsom's recall and endorsing himself as his GOP challenger. "Of course, if a public official is still failing to deliver on their promises, and if you can't limit their term or recall them in time, there's always one other option: you can run against them yourself," he said to applause, before walking offstage. He then got an endorsement from former White House Director of Strategic Communications Mercedes Schlapp, who's married to American Conservative Union chair Matt Schlapp. "How wonderful was Ric Grenell? I don't know, I think he'd make a great governor of California," she told the audience.

Not long after Politico reported "News - Ric Grenell is having dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago Saturday night to discuss a potential run for California governor in the recall. Comes the same day Grenell moved toward a bid in his CPAC speech."

Neither Grenell nor a Trump spokesman responded to Politico's requests for comment, but Grenell did tweet: "Wrong. And you never even asked me to fact check. This isn't remotely the reason we're having dinner. @Politico makes stuff up."

Grenell became the voice of the Gay GOP during the campaign when he often appeared at campaign events with Trump's daughter Tiffany.

Twitter was alive with comment of Grenell's gubernatorial prospects with a stirring endorsement:

And plenty of shade in response to Politico's tweet:
