It was inevitable that a Ryan Murphy series would end up filming in Provincetown, MA which is where the new season of his iconic anthology series "American Horror Story" has landed this week for location shooting, Boston.com reports.

The series confirmed that they are shooting in Provincetown with a tweet on Monday, along with a new graphic of a lighthouse with the show's title.

The location was also confirmed by Entertainment Weekly in an interview with Finn Wittrock, who is one of the principals in its cast. "The mystery theme for FX's American Horror Story season 10 is more tightly under wraps than Rubber Man himself, but we're slowly getting more clues as to what terrors await us in Provincetown, Mass."

Wittrock had just arrived in Provincetown when EW spoke with him about the show. "I think this is OK to say, I think the suspense in this and the tight, constrained nature of the story is different than other seasons," Wittrock said. "I was really interested in trying to mount the pressure in the right way, if that makes sense."

"It is different in tone than a lot of the other seasons." said the veteran of four previous editions of the show (Season 4 "Freak Show," Season 5 "Hotel," Season 6 "Roanoke," and Season 9 "1984"). Adding that the character he is playing is "the most 'normal' person that I've played on this show. That's not saying much.

"What's fun about this show is that no two things are ever the same," he noted. "You just never know what you're gonna get."

According to Boston.com, there are 19 locations planned for shooting, with specific sites as the Pilgrim Monument, Winthrop Street Cemetery, Mews Restaurant, and Racing Beach.

Most recently, Starz filmed the series "Hightown" in the town in 2019. "We think it's great exposure for the town," Provincetown director of tourism Anthony Fuccillo told Boston.com. "It's good for the film industry to have a town like ours to utilize. It will bring additional business for the town, and is good for economic development, especially this time of year."

Little is known of the plot of this season, but Murphy has dropped a few Instagram clues, including images of a dune-covered beach tagged as Provincetown, the tagline "things are beginning to wash up on shore," and a poster featuring sharp, shark-like teeth in a human mouth.

In addition to Wittrock, series regulars returning include Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angelica Ross, Leslie Grossman, Frances Conroy, Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, Lily Rabe, and Adina Porter. Newcomers are Macaulay Culkin, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Spencer Novich.

"Primary production for the show is based in Los Angeles, and with only two weeks of filming taking place in Provincetown, there's no guarantee that all of the show's large cast will film scenes in Massachusetts," adds Boston.com.
