Event Producer Jake Resnicow to Help Queer Nightlife Workers Impacted by the Pandemic with $8,000 in Grants

Jake Resnicow Events is pledging to donate $200 grants to 40 LGBTQ+ nightlife workers and artists impacted by COVID-19 shutdowns.

"Compared with the general population, LGBTQ people are at greater risk of experiencing economic insecurities due to disproportionate economic hardships, such as higher rates of poverty and unemployment, greater food insecurity and vulnerability to homelessness, and workforce discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI). These conditions and disparities predate the pandemic, but they have also been exacerbated by it," reported the Center for American Progress last month.

Applicants must reside in the USA and be a former service industry worker in an LGBT nightlife establishment at the start of the pandemic...including bartenders, servers, DJs, dancers, entertainers, tech producers, photographers and more.

Also, producers or organizers of queer nightlife events and vendors or contractors who can demonstrate that nightlife employment constituted a significant portion of their regular monthly income are permitted to apply.

The proceeds are being donated from his recent Secret Garden event in Miami that was a huge success, featuring artists Danny Verde and Spencer Huffmeyer.

"Our community has been hit harder than others," explains Jake Resnicow. "So many members of our family are still out of work, struggling to make ends meet. Giving back is very important to me."

Interested applicants for the $200 grants are encouraged to apply online at at this link. Deadline to submit applications is Wednesday, March 31 at 5pm EST. Grants will be administered to qualified applicants on a first-come first-serve basis.

Jake has made a name for himself as a party-giving philanthropist. During WorldPride, his Main Event at the Javits Center raised over $500,000 for LGBTQ+ charities.

Most recently, his 2020 Utopia Festival Nightlife Fund awarded fifty grants to LGBTQ+ in need, including Ada Vox, Kevin Aviance, CT Hedden and Cazwell.
