Trans Actor Patti Harrison Joining Cast of 'Lost City of D'

Patti Harrison is joining Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock on the cast of the Paramount Pictures film "The Lost City of D," Variety reports.

Nothing is yet known about Harrison's role, but the plot concerns a popular author (Bullock) who is on a book tour when she finds herself with the hunky cover model for her latest novel (Tatum) on a "romantic adventure" in the jungle thanks to a "kidnapping attempt," Variety said.

Variety took note of Harrison having made history as the first openly transgender actor to star in a Disney film. As previously reported at EDGE, "Harrison, who was named as one of Variety's 10 Comics to Watch in 2019, is featured as the Tail Chief towards the start of the film" "Raya and the Last Dragon."

"Though it's a small role, this still represents a huge milestone for trans actors in the film industry."

Variety recalled that Harrison "is a recurring character on Aidy Bryant's Hulu series 'Shrill' and has guest starred on 'BoJack Horseman' and HBO's 'High Maintenance.' "

Behind the camera, Harrison has proved her chops as a writer, leading the writers' room on the Netflix animated comedy "Big Mouth."

"Raya and the Last Dragon" made headlines recently when lead actor Kelly Marie Tran, who voices Raya, told Vanity Fair that she interpreted the relationship between the film's heroine and its female villain, Namaari, who is voiced by Gemma Chan, as having a romantic backstory.

"I think if you're a person watching this movie, and you see representation in a way that feels really real and authentic to you, then it is real and authentic," Tran told the publication.
