Actor Ruby Rose Opens Up About Homophobic Attack from Teen Years

In an interview with the Guardian's Chris Godfrey this week, TV star Ruby Rose opened up about extensive homophobic bullying she faced from a young age.

The former "Batwoman" star spoke at length to Godfrey about some of these instances from her youth, including fellow student's writing "we hate Ruby" on the walls of rooms, and girls claiming she was looking at them perversely in locker rooms.

In an even darker turn, Rose detailed an incident where she was brutally beaten by a group of her fellow students over her sexual identity.

"I was hospitalized and then was out of school for about five days, I got beaten up by about four girls and one guy in front of about 50 people," she said. "They hit me in the head with metal chairs at a cafe, and they threw things at me. They punched me. I ended up with lacerations, big bruises, concussion, and also... just how much that horrifies your soul, your spirit. I'd been bullied a lot, but not to this degree where I was worried for my life."

Rose, who came out as a lesbian when she was 12, said that at the time she wanted to press charges, but her mom could not afford representation and feared drawing out the mental anguish of the assault.

Even after all of her career successes, Rose stated that the whole affair still haunts her to this day.
