Caitlyn Jenner Slammed on Social Media for Governor's Run

Caitlyn Jenner announced her candidacy for the governorship of California in a recall election aimed to remove Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom. The 71-year old Olympian and television personality, who came out as trans in 2015, was immediately slammed by the LGBTQ community for her conservative politics and support of ex-President Donald Trump.

"While she is yet to confirm if she is running as a Republican or as an Independent, Jenner has surrounded herself with a team of former Donald Trump aides including his ex-campaign manager Brad Parscale and Caroline Wren - one of the organizers of the Stop The Steal rally on January 6 that escalated into the Capitol riot," reports the Daily Mail.

"Jenner, who is transgender, is a registered Republican and voted for Trump in 2016 but not in 2020, in protest against his position on transgender issues."�

She vowed on social media to "'turn this state around and finally clean up the damage Newsom has done" if she wins a potential recall election, but was promptly slammed for her candidacy by many in the LGBTQ community.

Actor/activist George Takei said that Jenner doesn't represent the trans community that she has said she is part of by comparing her to two conservative figures. "Black people wouldn't vote for Candace Owen for office. The disabled community wouldn't vote for Madison Cawthorn. I'm LGBTQ but I won't be voting for Caitlyn Jenner. Just so we're clear.?"

As previously reported on EDGE, advocacy group Equality California wrote: "Make no mistake: we can't wait to elect a #trans governor of California. But @Caitlyn_Jenner spent years telling the #LGBTQ+ community to trust Donald Trump. We saw how that turned out. Now she wants us to trust her? Hard pass. @StopRepRecall".

Trans activist Charlotte Clymer tweeted: "Appropriate response: Caitlyn Jenner is a deeply unqualified hack who doesn't care about anyone but herself. Her views are terrible. She is a horrible candidate." She added a reference to Joy Behar's misgendering Jenner on "The View" on Friday: "Inappropriate response: [Misgendering Caitlyn Jenner because you think transphobia is okay here. It's not.]"

In a second tweet, she added: "Caitlyn Jenner has no real support. I don't care about her candidacy. I do care about the ways in which her asinine views will be weaponized against trans people and the ways in which transphobia will go unchecked. This is purely a vanity campaign, and it's incredibly selfish."

Even her friend, Jennifer Finney Boylan, a transgender writer and professor at Barnard College who appeared on Jenner's reality show "I Am Cait," didn't show support when she tweeted:

"I'm not going to be commenting on Caitlyn Jenner's candidacy for CA governor. I said everything I have to say when I co-starred on her series. She is my friend, but yes, I did once hit her with a rolled up newspaper."

She added in a comment with the Washington Times, "I wish her well personally," Boylan said via email. "But I can't see how the conservative policies she is likely to embrace will help Californians."
