Demi Lovato took to Instagram Wednesday to announce that they are nonbinary and that they will be using they/them pronouns from now on.

"Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity and chance to be who we want and wish to be," Lovato, 28, wrote in a post about their new podcast "4D with Demi Lovato." "Today is a day I'm so happy to share more of my life with you all. I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary and will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward."

They added: "I'm still learning and coming into myself, and I don't claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me."

Lovato shared an accompanying video and said it's a "revelation" that they are nonbinary, adding that it is a result of "healing and self-reflective work" that they've been focusing on for the last year and a half.

"I feel [the change to they/them pronouns] best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression, and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am, and still am discovering," they said. "I'm doing this for those out there that haven't been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths and know I am sending so much love your way."

The "Cool for the Summer" singer came out as pansexual and fluid when they were on Joe Rogan's podcast last month. Before that, they said they felt "too queer" to be with a cisgender man.

Lovato released their seventh album, "Dancing with the Devil... the Art of Starting Over," this year, which coincided with the release of their YouTube docu-series "Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil," where they opened up about overdosing in 2018 and their road to recovery.
