Texas Bakery Finds Community Support Selling Pride Cookies

After announcing plans to sell LGBTQ Pride-themed cookies last week, Confections bakery in Lufkin, Texas, reportedly received order cancellations and hateful messages from some of its loyal customers.

But then the bakery's local community rallied around it in support, reported CBS.

"Today has been hard. Really hard," the bakery wrote in a Facebook post June 3. "We lost a significant amount of followers because of a rainbow heart cookie we posted. We received a very hateful message on our business page canceling a large order (5dz) of summer themed cookies for tomorrow morning (that we just finished decorating) because of a rainbow heart cookie we posted."

But it wasn't long before the bakery started receiving messages of support.

"Confections was inundated with messages of support from across the U.S., including from Mark Cuban's brother, Brian, who reached out to buy cookies to be donated to LGBTQ charities and other nonprofits," CBS reports. "When things slow down a bit, let us know if shipping is possible. I'd like to support you," Cuban said, CBS reports.

And the support didn't stop there, photos posted to social media showed people lined up at the bakery's shop – with Confections posting that it had sold out its entire inventory by the end of the day.

"Confections opened for just a short time on Saturday and once again sold out its inventory," CBS reports. "According to the Confections team, several customers offered to donate money instead of buying cookies because there was nothing left in the store. Co-owner Miranda Dolder announced those funds would be sent to a local animal rescue."

A happy ending to kick off a happy Pride month.
