President Joe Biden reacted to NFL star Carl Nassib coming out as gay as well as Japanese soccer player Kumi Yokoyama's coming out as transgender, saying he's "proud" of their courage to publicly share their identities, CNN reports.

Biden took to Twitter to share his comments on Wednesday, tweeting: "To Carl Nassib and Kumi Yokoyama -- two prominent, inspiring athletes who came out this week: I'm so proud of your courage. Because of you, countless kids around the world are seeing themselves in a new light today."

Nassib, a defensive end for the Las Vegas Raiders, took to Instagram Monday and posted a video in which he came out as gay, which was a historical moment to witness as he became the first active NFL player to do so. What's more, he made the moment even more special by pledging a $100,000 donation to The Trevor Project.

Meanwhile, Yokoyama, a forward for the women's soccer team the Washington Spirt team, came out as a trans man in a YouTube video over the weekend.
