Watch: Lil Nas X Reveals Relationship Ended, Might Rekindle
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Out hip-hop artist Lil Nas X talked about a recent relationship that he says ended because "I wanted to kind of focus on my music right now" – but hinted he would be open to rekindling the flame.
"The 'Industry Baby' musician, 22, confirmed that he was dating Yai Ariza, his costar in his 'That's What I Want' music video, but the two have since broken up," People Magazine reported.
"I am still very much in love, but I'm trying to manage, you know?" Lil Nas X told Tony Fly and Symon, the hosts of SiriusXM's Hits 1 LA, during an Oct. 1 appearance on the podcast.
"I love him; he is amazing," Lil Nas X said, going on to suggest that the two might yet have a future together: "If it's meant [to be], it will happen in the future," the People article quoted the hip-hop sensation as saying. "Life is long."
"His Thursday interview comes the same week Lil Nas X told Andy Cohen that he is single," People noted, recalling that a few days earlier Lil Nas X had "appeared on Cohen's Sirius XM...telling the host he was the one to end his latest relationship."
The recording artist's explanation to Cohen for the breakup was much the same as what he told Tony Fly and Symon: "I just want to work on music, and every now and then, you know, maybe I'll kiss a guy every blue moon."
Those comments came just a couple of months after he told Variety that he was in love, People recalled. "I think this is the one. I can't explain it – it's just a feeling," Lil Nas X said at the time.
But the artist also showed that his famous sense of humor was intact when he took to Twitter on Oct. 1 to joke that in the wake of his breakup, he was feeling like dating women, TMZ reported.
The implication that he wasn't really gay rubbed some fans the wrong way.
The "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)" singer quickly made it clear that he wasn't serious, posting a one-liner that reaffirmed his status as an out, proud artist.
A couple of days later, on Oct. 3, Lil Nas X posted another juicy one-liner that said volumes about the artistic relationship to the ecstasy and the agony of romance.
