Looks like Dave Chappelle isn't as "canceled" as he thought.
As reported by NME, Chappelle is set to front four new Netflix comedy specials titled "Chappelle's Home Team," where he will introduce different comedians. In response to the announcement, people took to social media to express their outrage.
"Oh man. Look how cancelled Dave Chapelle is. So fucking cancelled. It must really, really suck to get CANCELLED so much," wrote one user.
Another user shared, "My issue isn't really with Dave Chapelle anymore," another user said. "He's gonna do what's he gonna do and use transphobia for attention. But seriously, screw you Netflix for choosing to double down on platforming him and say 'fuck you' to criticism from trans people."
After he announced that he was "team TERF" and defended J.K. Rowling's transphobic comments, Chappelle became a talking point about the role of comedy in fueling hate speech.
Even GLAAD stepped in to condemn his comments, saying his "brand has become synonymous with ridiculing trans people and other marginalized communities."
After initially defending Chappelle's comments as free speech, Netflix boss Ted Sarandos backtracked to admit that the company "screwed up" its response.
Judging by the response on social media, the company might have another screw-up on its hands.
