Is Madison Cawthorn Hollywood Bound?
READ TIME: 3 MIN.
Ex-congressman and Trump supporter Madison Cawthorn has been keeping a low profile since he lost in a primary battle in May. The defeat of the youngest Congressional member to date came amid an ethics probe of his having an improper relationship with a staff member.
But the Daily Mail reports Cawthorn was seen Tuesday getting off a plane from Los Angeles at Ronald Reagan National Airport that has led to speculation that the 26 year old is heading west to work for Fox News at their bureau there.
He shot the rumor down to the Daily Mail.
"Cawthorn, who wore jeans, a black polo shirt and camouflage Nike sneakers for the journey, told DailyMail.com he has no plans for a post-politics career in Hollywood but demurred when asked if he was considering going to work at Fox which has a bureau in the City of Angels," thew outlet writes.
"You know what, I'm just enjoying my life. Just enjoying my life," he told the Daily Mail.
Cawthorn has made regular appearances on Fox News as the representative for North Carolina's 11th Congressional District and was championed during his failed primary campaign by host Tucker Carlson. He recently praised Carlson (amongst others) in a post-election IG post where he named whom he called "America First Patriots." They also included former President Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in raw post where he called for "dark MAGA" to "truly take command."
He added: "We have an enemy to defeat but we will never be able to defeat them until we defeat the cowardly and weak members of our own party... Their days are numbered. We are coming."
Cawthorn lost to challenger Chuck Edwards in the May 17 primary. What may have contributed to his loss were a number of social media posts that were released during the campaign. In one pic he was seen in women's lingerie and make-up, while in one video he was seen in a car with staff member Stephen Smith, who is also his cousin. In the video Cawthorn, the Daily Mail reports, is seen rubbing his cousin's crotch and talks about wanting to "see a naked body beneath my hands."
"The House Ethics Committee did not specify whether Smith is the staffer whose relationship with Cawthorn is being investigated but did say they are also looking into Cawthorn's financial affairs," adds the Daily Mail.
Amongst the other issues that have kept Cawthorn in the news of late are accusations of insider trading involving a 'pump-and-dump' scheme involving a cryptocurrency named "Let's Go Brandon." Earlier this year he angered fellow GOP congressman by claiming cocaine and orgies are common among the Republican hierarchy in DC. He also called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shortly after Russia invaded his country.
"It also emerged that since taking office, Cawthorn has been cited twice by authorities for carrying a handgun in his carry-on luggage at the airport and was stopped by North Carolina highway patrol at least three times," writes the Daily Mail.
But one video in particular likely caused his defeat – "Cawthorn, naked, screaming and chanting as he started thrusting against an unknown man's face. Someone else – presumably the person taking the video – could be heard laughing in the background and telling Cawthorn to 'stick it in his face.'
Cawthorn hit back, saying the video was a joke."
He said at the time: "A new hit against me just dropped,' he tweeted last week, explaining: 'Years ago, in this video, I was being crass with a friend, trying to be funny."
