Ricky Martin's Accuser Revealed to be Nephew, Complicating Abuse Charges
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Explosive details were revealed today identifying the victim in the Ricky Martin domestic violence restraining order that was filed in Puerto Rico on July 4.
The new site Marca reports that the victims anonymity was revealed "byEric Martin, another brother of the singer. And the complainant isDennis Yadiel Sanchez, nephew of the artist."
The report continues: "According to the victim,Ricky Martin exercised physical and psychological attackson him in the relationship they had for seven months."
People Español writes: "Under the allegations made by his 21-year-old nephew, it is said that he ended a seven-month relationship with Martin and that the 'Tu recuerdo' singer did not take it well, consistently reaching out to him and loitering outside his home.
"Sanchez added that there was physical and psychological abuse that occurred during the relationship. The legal battle is set to begin on July 21."
Marta reports that the nature of the crime makes it a far more serious charge. "The sentence that Ricky Martin would face if it is proven that he is the author of this crime is50 years in prison. This is whatPuerto Rico's laws state when it comes to incest."
A spokesperson told Marta "that therelationship between Ricky Martin and his 21-year-old nephewended a couple of months ago, and... the violence for which the artist is accused occurred because 'he would not have accepted the separation' and therefore began to call him insistently and to persecute him."
"The allegations against Ricky Martin that lead to a protection order are completely false and fabricated," representatives for Martin toldPeopleearlier this month. "We are very confident that when the true facts come out in this matter our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated."
"The protection order entered against me is based on completely false allegations, so I will respond through the judicial process with the facts and the dignity that characterize me," Martin wrote. "Because it is an ongoing legal matter, I cannot make detailed statements at this time. I am grateful for the countless messages of solidarity, and I receive them with all my heart."
Martin has not made any further statements, adds People Espagnol.
"Both the singer and his team of lawyers are preparing the defense against the accusation of his nephew," writes Marta. "The trial will begin onJuly 21, that day Dennis Yadiel Sanchez will answer questions before the judge. Those handlingRicky Martin's defenseclaim that the nephew has recently been denounced by a woman who denounced him for harassment after he threatened to destroy her life."
