Listen: GOP Congressman Who Voted Against Same-Sex Marriage Rights Makes Speech at Gay Son's Wedding

At a Friday night wedding, Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Glenn Thompson toasted to his son and new son-in-law, knowing he just voted to strip apart the rights of their union.
As reported by BuzzFeed News, Thompson is a representation of GOP hypocrisy of the worst kind. But he didn't stop there; he even gave a lengthy speech about hoping for happy and healthy children as he actively votes for policies that will damage the lives of LGBTQ+ couples and their children.
"First of all, obviously, we hope right from the beginning, it's all about having a healthy child. It's about them being healthy," he says. "We hope for safety. We're hoping that they find their way, find opportunity, they find inspiration. And as they grow and as they get a little older, we also hope and pray they're going to find that one true love so that they have the opportunity to experience that: Someone to grow old with."
What's really getting old is the GOP's attacks on LGBTQ+ lives. Thompson was one of 157 House Republicans who voted against a bill that would codify federal protections for marriage equality.
The Respect for Marriage Act acts as a failsafe in case the Supreme Court reverses itself on marriage equality, "something LGBTQ activists fear is a very real possibility following the court's overturning of abortion protections," BuzzFeed reports.
"This bill was nothing more than an election-year messaging stunt for Democrats in Congress who have failed to address historic inflation and out of control prices at gas pumps and grocery stores," said Thompson's press secretary, Maddison Stone, about the vote.
But from the sounds of the speech he gave at his son's wedding, the true stunt queen is Thompson. Head over to BuzzFeed News to listen to his speech.
