Neil Patrick Harris Calls 'Doctor Who' Star Ncuti Gatwa a 'Sexier Doctor'

"Uncoupled" star Neil Patrick Harris recently wrapped filming his part in the new season of "Doctor Who" and declared to fans that the show is officially gay.

As reported by Variety, this is the queerest season yet of the show, and Harris says it is in no small part thanks to the new version of the Timelord, played by "Sex Education" star Ncuti Gatwa.

"I got to meet and interact with him a bit and he's glorious," Harris told Variety speaking about Gatwa. "He'll be the first gay Doctor, which is going to be super cool, a sexier Doctor."

Harris' wide-ranging interview covered everything from fake penises to his first gay sex scene for his Netflix show, "Uncoupled."

But his "Doctor Who" comments gives more insight into what might be in store for the show's 14th season. It isn't confirmed exactly who Harris will be playing, but there is a rumor that he could be The Toymaker, a powerful being who traps people with childish games, putting their freedom on the line. And that sounds about right for Harris if it is true.

Also appearing in the show reportedly is "Heartstopper" star Yasmin Finney as Rose in the upcoming 60th anniversary special. "You'll find out in 2023, but it's an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set," showrunner Russell T. Davies previously said in a statement. "We all fell in love with her in 'Heartstopper,' one of those shows which changes the world – and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse!"

Although "Doctor Who" did previously have a same-sex attraction between the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and her companion, Yaz Khan (Mandip Gill), Gatwa's portrayal will be the first time the Timelord is out and up front with their sexual orientation.

Look for the premiere of the show next year.
