Troye Sivan Talks 'The Idol,' Chick-fil-A's 'Homophobic Chicken'

Openly gay pop star and actor Troye Sivan spoke freely with his co-star and friend Rachel Sennott in an interview that featured a slew of sexy pics of Sivan in black a Speedo.

The photos that ran with the piece, published by Interview Magazine, showed Sivan complimenting the Speedo with various styles of makeup. In one shot he donned a black trench coat by Coach and shoes by Celine by Hedi Slimane; in another, set on a beach, Sivan wore a vest by Celine by Hedi Slimane and a bracelet by Cartier.

A shot suggestive of summertime seaside athleticism shows the pop star posed next to a volleyball net, wearing only the Speedo. In another photo he adopts a '60s-esque look, posing shirtless in black leather pants by Alexander McQueen, secured by a Hermès belt, while he clutches a flower to his chest.

Hermès recurred twice over in another snap, with Sivan modeling both a blazer and pants by the house.

The conversation delved into the upcoming HBO series "The Idol," co-created by Sam Levinson, in which he and Sennott co-star. Interview Mag described it as "an ultra-seedy look at the underbelly of L.A.'s fame factory, costarring Rachel Sennott, who talks to him about making the switch from the stage to his 'batshit crazy' new acting gig, Amy Winehouse's Judaism, homophobic chicken, and the 'random-as-fuck Canadian girl' who started it all."

The "homophobic chicken" in question was the product of Chick-fil-A, a company well-known for donations to anti-LGBTQ+ causes. Sivan admitted to having eaten at one of the chain's restaurants, only to feel sick later on as he performed in concert.

"I don't think I puked but I remember feeling extraordinarily sick," Sivan told Sennott. "It was that sweaty, clammy feeling, except there's all these people staring back at me."

Sivan described singing the lyrics out of force of habit, as his thoughts fixated on his misery. "I need to get off this stage within the next 30 seconds," Sivan recalled thinking. "And so I ran off and did my thing, washed my face, almost puked, et cetera."

The pop star explained that if he needs a few minutes off the stage in the middle of a set, he has a "hand signal where if I hold up the number four as I'm walking off stage, they know to play some beep-bop elevator music and give me ten minutes because something is going wrong in my body."

Addressing his Chick-fil-A patronage, he told Sennott that his bout of on-stage nausea was "karma, right? Because I was eating homophobic chicken – but it was spicy homophobic chicken..."

Gastric distress notwithstanding, Sivan said "I've been singing for such a long time, I actually feel quite safe onstage. I feel confident that if, let's say, god forbid, I was to trip onstage or forget my lyrics, I could talk my way out of it. And my audience, the people who come to the shows, are so nice and I feel like they're my friends. That's a very safe space."

With prodding from Sennott, Sivan hinted at two other creative pursuits he might like to explore: Perfume and interior design.

"I love fragrances and the way they can change the way that you see someone," the pop singer mused. As for house decor, "I really love interior design and thinking about what the home means for people," Sivan told Sennott.

She, in turn, confided, "I'm definitely not good at architecture or design, but I feel like I have people in my life who give me helpful tips."

"You've got your gays?" Sivan asked, before declaring: "I want to help."
