The Best 'Drag Race' Runway Looks of 2022
Barry Levitt READ TIME: 6 MIN.
It's very exciting – if very overwhelming – time to be a fan of "RuPaul's Drag Race." The "Drag Race" world is getting bigger each and every year, with new franchises and seasons popping up seemingly every week. That means more queens and more winners than ever before. It also means we get a ridiculous amount of runways every year, with queens finding new ways to blow people's minds. We're celebrating all things fashion, and looking at the very best runway looks on "Drag Race" in 2022.
Blu Hydrangea – Dot, Dot, Dot ("U.K. vs. The World")
Blu Hydrangea doesn't get nearly enough credit for her winning run on "U.K. vs. The World". She was great in the challenges, but the runway is really where Blu took things to the next level. Her phenomenal Dot, Dot, Dot runway was immaculate, combining orange and blue to perfection. Polka dots were as far as the eye could see, and the two faces on her arms really solidified this immaculate look.
Juriji Der Klee – España Siglo X ("Drag Race España Season 2")
Juiriji Der Klee drove fans wild with her amazing beauty and spicy, fiery personality. She also regularly impressed on the runway, and her best look was this Joan of Arc-inspired piece for the Siglo X (10th-century) runway. What really made this look memorable was the technical prowess. Juriji ingeniously made the sword a remote control, allowing the wings to retract and expand at will. Magnetic, memorable, and beautiful – the perfect personification of Juriji Der Klee.
Drag Sethlas – Siglo XXX ("Drag Race España Season 2)
Drag Sethlas brought amazing concepts to all of her exceptional runways, but the very best look is the one she made for the ball challenge. Her Siglo XXX (30th-century) look was a sight to behold, full of sharp angles and geometric shapes. She towered over her competitors thanks to her signature gigantic heels, and her super spiky hair and perfect makeup earned her a well-earned win.
Willow Pill – Spring Has Sprung ("RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 14)
The winner of "Drag Race" Season 14, Willow Pill had excellent runways that combined camp and high fashion. The best example of this, and the best look of the whole season, came in the Spring Has Sprung runway. Willow wore a cute dress perfect for a 50s housewife, wearing a literal house on her head. It was effortlessly charming, but when she turned around, "HELP" was written with blood on the back of the house, suggesting something far more wicked beyond the cutesy first glance. Brilliant.
Monét X Change – Pleather Principle ("RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars" Season 7)
"All Stars 7," perhaps better known as the all-winners season, was so impressive that this entire list could be looks from that season. One of the finest came from Monét, who came out in this thrilling gown that's elegantly camp. It's a beautiful chocolate brown that compliments her skin to perfection, and the chest and ab structure of the top half ties it all together with a knowing wink that makes drag so special.
Raja – Realness of Fortune Eleganza ("RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars" Season 7)
One of the better balls in "Drag Race" herstory, the Realness of Fortune ball really didn't have a single disappointing look. Though she didn't place in the top two, this look from Raja (that she made herself!) has stuck with us ever since it walked the runway. It's impossibly elegant, and the top half of the dress is so extraordinarily structured that its a marvel it didn't take months to craft. Raja reminded us every single week why she's the ultimate fashion queen.
Raja – Grand Finale Eleganza ("RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars" Season 7)
How could we not include another outfit from Raja? The fashion goddess turned it out every single week but somehow managed to save the best for last with this outrageous final look. Raja served the queen of the insects realness, and everything about it is the perfect blend of creepy and impossibly elegant. That includes the incredible and creative makeup, which served as a final reminder that there is absolutely nothing Raja can't do on the runway.
Miss Fiercalicious – Paint ("Canada's Drag Race" Season 3)
"Canada's Drag Race" is quickly establishing itself as one of the most fashionable franchises in the "RuPaul's Drag Race" universe. The proof is in the pudding: the Art runway featured one iconic look after the other, but none was better than Miss Fiercalicious. It's the kind of look that makes you wonder how on earth it was made, and how on earth it fit in a suitcase! It's a stunning recreation of "The Swing" by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. If you haven't seen "Canada's Drag Race", here's irrefutable evidence that you need to change that.
Icesis Couture – Successor Crowning ("Canada's Drag Race" Season 3)
This one is so good it almost feels like cheating. One of the most underrated elements of a Drag Race finale is seeing the previous season's winner return in an exciting look to remind everyone why they're a winner. That is exactly what Icesis Couture did when she returned to the Season 3 finale. Her coronation runway is beyond spectacular, and may just be the best look of the entire year. Outrageous and over-the-top in a way that feels uniquely drag, while reminding us exactly why Icesis is a winner.
Paloma – Dragnifique ("Drag Race France" Season 1)
The first season of "Drag Race France" was impressive, with some great hosting from Nicky Doll and a wonderful and unique array of queens. It was Paloma who shone brightest of all, ultimately winning the season with a whole lot of talent. She also regularly stormed the runway, but her sleek, classic look in the finale was our favorite. The red dress, and sleek reveal is so sexy, and the hair had a hearty dose of old-school glamour. It screams chic and looked even better with the crown on her head.
Danny Beard – West End ("RuPaul's Drag Race U.K." Season 4)
Another brilliant example of "How on Earth did this fit in a suitcase?" Danny Beard had a brilliant run on season 4 of "RuPaul's Drag Race U.K.", but their best moment on the runway came with this incredible take on Audrey 2 from "Little Shop of Horrors." Spectacularly camp and just genuinely spectacular, this look confirmed that Danny Beard was a very serious competitor
Viñas Deluxe – Shake, Rattle, and Rampa ("Drag Race Philippines" Season 1)
"Drag Race Philippines" had amazing challenges, contestants, and lipsyncs, but where the show regularly blew people's minds was on the runway. There were so many amazing looks, but none felt more memorable than Viñas Deluxe's Shake, Rattle, and Rampa look. It's one of those moments that seems to defy any and all logic, yet it works. Viñas creates an incredible illusion that she's literally been severed in half, and she's holding up her own legs. It's unspeakably haunting and beautiful.
Cheddar Gorgeous – Tickled Pink ("RuPaul's Drag Race U.K." Season 4)
Drag has been, and always will be political, and Cheddar Gorgeous channeled activism in this awe-inspiring look on the Tickled Pink runway in "RuPaul's Drag Race U.K." The pink triangles – a key icon from the fight against AIDS – were presented thoughtfully and beautifully on this runway, serving an unforgettable look while providing an essential education.
Silky Nutmeg Ganache – Queen of the World ("Canada vs. The World: Canada's Drag Race")
Plus-size queens simply don't get enough credit for being highly fashionable, but Silky absolutely shut it down with this look. It's incredibly glamorous from head to toe, with an epic reveal at the start of the runway to set up this beautifully patterned gown. And that hair! That makeup! An effortlessly elegant masterpiece.
Victoria Scone – Air Body Lace ("Canada vs. The World: Canada's Drag Race")
Now this is how you define the word iconic. Victoria came out facing the other way – the judges knew something exciting was about to happen, and they were right. Victoria delivered a scintillating drag king look that channeled the essence of the legendary Fabio, and she truly shut it down on the runway. Totally unforgettable, delightfully camp, and deliciously sexy.
