Watch: Sam Smith Talks about Theory That They're Adele in Drag

From claims that Lea Michele is illiterate to lunatic notions that Michelle Obama was assigned male at birth, the internet brims with wild conspiracy theories.

But hold on to your hats for this one.

Sam Smith was a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show and discussed one of the internet's crazier theories: that they are actually a drag persona of Adele.

Entertainment Weekly noted that a preview for the talk show's Jan. 23 episode shares a snippet of Smith explaining the theory.

"Everyone seems to think that I'm Adele in drag," Smith recounts in the preview, which dropped Jan. 20. "'Cause we've never been seen in the same room together, and if you slow down her voice it sounds maybe a bit like mine."

"So people think that we're the same person," Smith adds, "and I'm just in drag right now."

Smith made the comments in response to being asked what's the "craziest rumor you're ever heard about yourself."

The two English recording artists do share a birth city – London – but that might not be enough to warrant a full-fledged "Where's the Birth Certificate" campaign.
