Lea Michele Says This About Her Bad Behavior Accusations
Emell Adolphus READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Broadway star Lea Michele says that she is a changed woman, and it shows in the results of her hit portrayal of Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl."
According to Michele in an interviews with Interview Magazine conducted by "Slave Play" playwright Jeremy O. Harris, she has been "soul-searching" since being accused by multiple former "Glee" co-stars of bad behavior on set. But Michele didn't specify whether she was looking for her own soul or just more souls to crush with her diva antics.
Just kidding!
In conversation with O. Harris, Michele let it slip that she "did a lot of person reach-outs" to people she may have harmed with her behavior that she described in a NYT feature story as "an edge."
"But the most important thing was for everybody to just take a step back," she told Harris. "More than anything, I'm so grateful to have this opportunity to apply the things that I've learned over the past 10-plus years in a positive way."
Stepping into her "Funny Girl" role, "If I can't take my role as a leader offstage as important as my role as a leader onstage, then I shouldn't do this show," she said. Because that was "always a struggle" for her she said.
Michele also said that she views "Funny Girl" as an opportunity to introduce audiences to who she is now, rather than who she was during her "Glee" days.
"I've been doing this for a really long time and I'm not going to ever blame anything on the things that I've been through in my life," she said. "But you also can't ignore those experiences or deny them."
Whatever soul she has found, it seems to be working. "Funny Girl" continues to have rave reviews and is raking in the dough on Broadway.
