Click here to read an extended interview with Stephan F. Ferris (aka Blue Bailey) about his book and career.

Professionally, Stephan F. Ferris is a lawyer in San Francisco. But he's likely better known through his adult male performer moniker, Blue Bailey, who has been in more than 100 scenes over the past decade.

He kept notes on his many sexual encounters over the years and has put them together in "Blue Movie," a non-fiction account in which he relates 77 of his experiences in a no-holes barred fashion. The book has been so successful that its website reads it is currently sold out with a new printing on its way.

"'Blue Movie' is a horror show come to life," reads its description on its website. "It is one written and cast from the darkest corners of the Internet. In it, readers will witness the brutal unmaking of a human, the terrifying collapse of hope, and the drug-fueled spiral leading to disaster. A sadistic Nazi, a dungeon death, and an arrest for murder are just a few of the shocking moments in this collection of 77 scenes from the life of a sexual outlaw."

Part of what has made his book so dark is his frank discussion of "chemsex."

"I think it's important to shed light on why chemsex is so appealing to our community and how it can quickly become dangerous," Ferris tells The Sword in an exclusive interview.

"Since my book was first published, I have had several friends die from overdose, fentanyl poisoning, and other substance-related causes," he says. "Chemsex is killing our community and in most cases, it can be avoided. My goal with the book isn't to tell people not to do drugs, but instead to show there are ways to use drugs safer, including harm reduction and other forms of recovery."

He adds: "I don't pull any punches and that's intentional. There are many moments in my life where a fun night out ended in death and handcuffs due to substance use. No one likes being told what to do, but it is important to have visibility and an understanding of why chemsex is so attractive to queer people."

Another reason for writing the book is to show that you can be a professional and a "sexual outlaw" at the same time. "I can be open about my sexuality, I can take loads all night at Horse Market, and none of that impacts my ability to be a professional, whether that be a doctor, an attorney, or something else," said Ferris.

He also says that putting his experiences down on paper was therapeutic for him. "My pattern of use was to binge crystal meth for days, crash, catch up on life, and repeat," Ferris told The Sword. "I didn't really have time to be present in life or to be aware of the emotions that were underscoring my actions. Sitting down and writing allowed me the space and perspective to go back and analyze moments in my past that I moved too quickly to process."

It was his publisher who gave him some great advice: "Write everything down! You can always remove it later in the editing process. It's important to get everything out of your head and onto the paper at first. With that in mind, I didn't think anything was too difficult to write about, but there are some passages, in particular some passages about slamming, that I prefer not to re-read or re-relive."

"As for the best place to get the book," the Sword writes, "Ferris encourages fans to buy or order the book from their local LGBTQ+ bookstore. If you don't have easy access to a queer bookstore though, 'Blue Movie' can be ordered through the Unbound Edition Press website or via Amazon – a place where Ferris asks fans to rate and review 'Blue Movie' to help it get noticed by the site's algorithm."
