Rep. George Santos Confesses to Fraud and Agrees to Pay Damages in Brazil Case

Embattled U.S. Rep George Santos is ready to make a deal, CNN reported.

After defrauding a Rio de Janeiro area clerk of $1,300 in shoes and clothes in 2008, Santos is reportedly ready to confess and pay damages to the victim for the crime.

CNN obtained a petition from Santos' attorney outlining that he would do so and follow what is required under Brazilian law. "A memo from prosecutors agreeing to the deal last week asked the defense for assurances they have the ability to contact the victim to repay him before the deal is finalized," CNN reports.

Santos did not comment on the agreement, and there have been no comments from his attorneys in Brazil and the United States. But it seems the truth is emerging about Santos one court case at a time.

Santos told police in 2010 that he wrote bad checks from a stolen checkbook belonging to an elderly man his mother cared for, to purchase the $1,300 in goods.

Santos publicly admitted that he had not been charged with any crime in U.S. but maintained he is not a "criminal here – not here or in Brazil or any jurisdiction in the world. Absolutely not. That didn't happen," he said at the time.

Apparently, Brazilian authorities could not find an address to serve him papers – which leads to the question: Who else is waiting to serve Santos some justice?
